Albert “AJ” Tuner is a lifelong native of Beaumont, Texas. Married to Ashley Turner, devoted father of four beautiful daughters, Albert is extremely passionate about the Beaumont community. Albert's parents are Albert Turner Sr. and Darlene Turner, and his older sisters are Cicely Polite and Shaleese Turner, and younger brother Aldrick Turner. AJ is a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under Dr. John R. Adolph. He has served as a leader in this community majority of his life but as a City Councilmember At-Large for the City of Beaumont since May of 2021.
He graduated with Honors from Central High School in 2005 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice from Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. Honors and accomplishments at Wiley College include a full athletic scholarship, the highest GPA of the Red River Athletic Conference, Defensive Player of the Year, Criminal Justice Student of the Year, President of the Student Government Association, President of The Sociology Club and President of the prestigious Alpha Chi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
Councilman Turner served for seven years as a District Parole Officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice before pursuing entrepreneurship as the founder of AJ Turner Enterprises, encompassing several marketing and mentorship programs. He has coordinated and facilitated multiple events, including Franky Beverly and Maze, Kirk
Franklin, Charlie Wilson, and 2Chainz concerts, Beaumont’s Got Talent Youth Talent Show, and annual events such as The Black Heritage Festival, Business Expos, Juneteenth Celebration, and Summer Camps for the Youth. AJ also holds Marketing contracts with multiple businesses throughout Southeast Texas and is the Director of Operations for TGPA and Logistics, a thriving company with roughly a hundred employees that has contracts with Amazon and FedEx.
Councilman Turner has received numerous honors from the community including the Chamber of Commerce 40 under 40 Award, ExxonMobil Award of Prestige for Outstanding Leadership in the Southeast Texas, Martin Luther King Man of the Year Award, NAUW Martin Luther King Humanitarian Recipient, 100 Black Women Coalition Rising Star, Black Business Professional Man of the Year, and Chamber of Commerce Young Professional of the Year.
He has served on The Sheriff’s Review Board, NAACP Executive Board, Aeronautics Sustainability Institute Executive Board, AMSET, United Way Local Linc Board and TAN Healthcare Board. He is the founder of Hoops for Toys, which collects toys for our underserved local population, and the creator of the podcast Don’t Give up on the System, which engages the community with information from elected officials, community leaders, business owners, and reliable sources to keep the community abreast on previous and current issues.
